Littleman asked me a very big favour the other day. (and yes, he said favour)
He wants a little brother or sister.
As I explained that I just couldn’t do that right now, )he understands that it takes 2 …well, sometimes it takes 2 
), he aked if I’d consider his ‘dad’. I very clearly had to say no, that wasn’t an option.
“Why?” …was his next question.
We sat down and I explained, very carefully, that once upon a time, his dad and I loved each other enough to create such a wonderful little boy. But we just don’t love each other like that anymore, and it takes that love to make a person.
“Do you still love him at all?”…that dreaded next question.
I could not lie…I just couldn’t! (heck, I don’t even ‘like’ the person he is now) ”No…I don’t love him and he doesn’t love me…BUT…I LOVE that we made you, so there will always be a teeny, tiny part of my heart for him.”
Ok, he gets that, he understands, all is well…next question….
” Can you find me a better dad soon…and THEN make me a brother or sister?”
“I’m working on it kid”…LOL

Oh, to be able to answer our kids with blunt honesty. But that’s just another one of the reasons we are the single parents and our exs are…. umm… well… on their own?
